What Are The Benefits?

If you are granted withholding of removal, then you will be able to stay in the United States, and the government cannot deport you back to your country. Unlike asylum, those who win withholding are not eligible for green cards, are not eligible to petition for their relatives, and do not have a direct path to U.S. citizenship.

To be eligible for withholding you must show that it is “more likely than not” that your “life or freedom would be threatened” in your home country “on account of” your race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
